John Hawk received the Medal of Honor for his actions this day, in helping to close the Falaise Gap, staying in the fight, after being wounded, to direct the fire of tank destroyers.

Hawk returned to combat after recovering from his wounds, survived the War, became a teacher, and died in 2013 at 89 years of age. Read his Medal of Honor citation and honor and remember him!
