Thinking about Carl Luksic today, a World War II ace who had eight and a half victories. He received the Distinguished Service Cross when he became an ace-in-a-day on May 8, 1944, shooting down five German planes attacking allied bombers.
On May 24, 1944, Luksic was shot down over Germany and taken as a prisoner-of-war. He tried to escape three times, succeeding on his third attempt in March 1945. After the War, he served for 24 years in the Air Force. Honor Carl Luksic and remember his tremendous leadership example throughout his long life, over Germany, in the POW camps and after the War.
